Shutdown Anniversary - Hi Kids

This article was originally published March 26, 2021

Hi kids,

I am writing this note you let you know how appreciated you are and to say thank you.

It has been just over one year since the world has shut down. This brought on a lot of change for all of us and you have handled yours with stride. Without notice you were home from school, not seeing friends or extended family, and talking to a lot of people through screens.

You are wearing masks, trying your best to keep your distance from others, keeping up with the always changing rules, and washing your hands very well.

You have accepted so much change. You probably did not have the birthday, summer, Halloween, or holiday season that you are used to. If you have gone back to school, it is different than before and you aren't able to enjoy the same activities that you have previously.

You may have noticed in the last year that your adults, even though they may have been home, have been more stressed and frustrated than usual. You have given them so much patience and continued to show your love continuously.

I know that you have also felt confused, frustrated and scared yourself. I hope you know that these feelings are okay and you can always talk to your adults about them if they get too strong.

So again I would like to say thank you. Thank you for being the consistent, strong, loving people that the grown-ups need. You remind us of what true resilience is. It does not go unnoticed.

Love, a grown-up
