In case you need a reminder, the shortest days of the year are behind you

I don't know about you, but January can be a challenging month for me. Every year it comes around and while it's supposed to feel like a fresh start or clean slate, it always feels heavy, dark, and never-ending.

January generates a strange mix of feelings: the post-holiday crash, the pressure of New Year’s resolutions, the loss of light and, depending on where you live, grey skies and freezing temperatures.

So what do I do to cope? I've learned to live in the slow and keep expectations low. Some days I exercise and some days I sleep. Sometimes my son and I are out in the snow and sometimes inside under blankets. I have super-productive spurts (goodbye to old clothes) and piles of laundry around the house (so many sweaters!).

I shared the below post to my Instagram story and it really resonated with a lot of people. It's a reminder to be proud of ourselves and to give ourselves grace for simply making it through some periods of time.

If the year started slow for you, that's perfect. It's what you needed.
